Free computer analysis tool for important data
Belarc Advisor is a free system utility program that enables you to access your computer’s important information. Developed by Belarc, this surprisingly-comprehensive tool analyzes your computer data, gathering details like the installed software and hardware, your antivirus status, and other information. Belarc Advisor builds a detailed profile of your personal desktop and is licensed for personal use only. You can also print out the profile in PDF form.
Your computer profiler
Belarc Advisor’s function is straightforward despite the data it has to handle. You simply run it to get your computer’s current profile. The information this program will provide includes your operating system, all installed software and hardware, the network inventory, any missing Microsoft hotfixes, your antivirus status, any security benchmarks, and more.
The report you’ll get is divided into different parts. In the Summary report, you’ll find in-depth details of items like the computer's hardware, local user and system accounts, a map of the local area network, lists of software license keys and installed hotfixes, and even an inventory of the installed software—with an indication of when each piece of software was last used.
The Security Benchmark Score report, on the other hand, shows you your computer’s compliance with US Government Configuration Baseline benchmarks—developed by the United States Department of Defense and National Institute of Standards and Technology. It shows the status of compliance with each benchmark and the overall compliance per category.
Seems a bit unsecured
What Belarc Advisor provides you can be pretty handy for situations wherein you need these details. However, it’s annoying to find that instead of showing a program pop-up, this system tool opens up a webpage instead to deliver the reports. Belarc Advisor runs on various Windows OS versions and supports both 32-bit and 64-bit—although you can’t get Security Benchmark Score report on Windows 10.
This program also runs on popular web browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. However, it shouldn’t mean that a program that collects your computer data should just present it there. The reports are only opened on a local webpage so no webserver will see your information, but this alone can create issues like your firewall blocking the program or the report not loading. The report itself can be a bit tricky to peruse.
Belarc Advisor is a handy tool for computer analysis and diagnostics. However, its delivery of results may disappoint those who like to keep such sensitive information away from the internet. Nevertheless, it does its job quite thoroughly.
